Christopher Columbus wrote the first cruising guide to the Bahamas in 1492. Columbus's log survived as The Diario, it contains the first recorded sailing directions for the Bahamas, and includes distances and directions. Columbus's log, The Diario, as such it constitutes the first cruising guide to the Bahamas. Columbus and the crews of the Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria spent twelve days in the Bahamas, before sailing on the the Caribbean. Columbus never returned to the Bahamas. |
